Preparation of Hydrolyzed Sugarcane Molasses as a Low-Cost Medium for the Mass Production of Probiotic Lactobacillus paracasei ssp. paracasei F19

In this study, sugarcane molasses (SCM) was pre-treated in a low-cost fermentation medium to produce probiotic biomass of Lactobacillus paracasei ssp. F19 (LPPF19) with the combination dilution, centrifugation, and acid hydrolysis (5 molar sulfuric acid, 60 °C/2 h). Microtox analysis, inductively coupled mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were used measure effects SCM pretreatment on process. The results showed that sucrose into glucose fructose 98%, which represented an increase 44.4% initial content (fermentation-limiting sugar), harmful heavy metals, such as arsenic, cadmium, lead, reduced by 50.3, 60.0, 64.3%, respectively. After pretreatment, supplementation only yeast extract salts (Na, K, Mg, Mn), 9.58 log CFU/mL achieved, approximately ten times higher than for control (MRS/DeMan, Rogosa, Sharpe). cost reduction achieved compared commercial 68.7% laboratory 78.9% industrial scale. This work demonstrated could be cheaper more effective alternative LPPF19.
